AutoXross Boss Simon Smith, rounded off a long overdue Holiday with a hasty weekends racing at an Autumnal Brands Hatch last weekend for the final Super Silhouette’s Series Round of the 2019 Championship Season.
‘We didn’t land back until late Thursday, didn’t even start prep on the AutoXross BMW Z4 until 4.40pm Friday afternoon and finally rolled into Brands around 9:00pm Friday night’ laughed Smith!
The Essex Businessman has not had as much time behind the wheel this year as he would have liked but nonetheless went out onto a very wet Brands and still posted a Qualifying P9, ‘pretty good when considering we were on ‘old wets that were a bit hard’ he added.
The wet weather continued for the day and come Race 1 it was a case of getting another run out of the wets, – ‘we had no grip but still managed a 13th so were happy with that!’
Come Sunday, the rain had departed Kent and the Racers were greeted with a dry track for their second and final race of the Championship.
‘This time we bolted on Slicks and managed to work our way up to around 6th where we had a great scrap with Keith White, before Ray Harris came and joined the party too. The three of us had a good clean race and I managed a 5th place finish which we were all happy with given the preparation time we had, had plus not the best of rubber!’
Smith has enjoyed his few outings in the Silhouette’s this year and sites Sonny Howard and the SHP Motorsport team for the success of the Series; ‘Sonny and his Team have done a great job with the Series, every little detail is covered and well organised – we’ll be back with the AutoXross BMW Z4 next year for more of the same!’
